1.Story of Holika and Prahlad - The most popular story associated with Holi is that of Holika and Prahlad. Prahlad, a devout follower of Lord Vishnu, was protected by the Lord when his father, Hiranyakashipu, tried to kill him. Holika, the demoness sister of Hiranyakashipu, tricked Prahlad into sitting on a pyre with her, thinking that she would be immune to fire. However, Prahlad's devotion to Lord Vishnu saved him, and Holika was burnt to ashes.
2.Story of Radha and Krishna - Holi is also associated with the love between Radha and Krishna. The story goes that Krishna was jealous of Radha's fair complexion and complained to his mother about it. Yashoda, his mother, playfully suggested that he could apply color on Radha's face to make her look like him. Following this, Krishna and Radha and their friends started playing with colors and that is how Holi started being celebrated.
