Aroma Therapy - Play of Senses

Aroma Therapy activates smell receptors around your nose, which send messages to your brain through the nervous system. The oils can activate certain areas of the brain, like the limbic system, which plays a role in your emotions. They activate the region of the brain called hypothalamus, which responds to the oil by creating "happy-feel" brain chemicals.

What is Aroma Therapy?

Aroma Therapy, also called essential oil therapy, is the science of using aromatic essential oils to as a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Aroma Therapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health.

The distillation of essential oils was first noticed in Persia in the 10th century, possibly much earlier but details about this was published in Germany in the 16th century. Even French physicians used essential oils for treating disease.

With more than 100 types of essential oils, Aroma Therapy works through the sense of smell and skin absorption using one of these products or a combination of these,  such as diffusers, spritzers, inhalers, bathing salts, body oils, creams, or lotions for massage or topical application, facial steamers, and hot and cold compresses

Become a certified Aroma Therapist

Although the word aroma makes it sound as if the oils are inhaled, they can also be massaged into the skin or sometimes, taken by mouth.

Note: You should never take essential oils by mouth without specific instruction from a trained and qualified specialist.

Whether inhaled or applied on the skin, essential oils are gaining new attention as an alternative treatment for infections, stress, and other health problems.

Different plants induce different scents and bring about various kinds of effects on the human mind. For example, lavender is used to help calm the mind. Placing lavender sachets next to the bed or below the pillow helps one get a sound sleep.

Most spas use aromas to bring the desired effect. Aroma therapy is not difficult. Reach out to me to find out how you can bring in a whiff of beautiful aromas inside your home and change your moods with it.
